CDC demolished its first road bridge in the early 1980s. Since then, we have demolished over 200 bridges, making us one of the leading practitioners of bridge demolition in the country.
We’ve encountered almost every type of bridge across the country: From brick arches to steel framed and concrete. We have experience in the demolition of bridges over rivers, A-roads and motorways, rail-over-road bridges, road-over-rail bridges, viaducts, swing bridges and footbridges.
Projects have included the use of explosives, two-stage or partial demolition, route possession and road closures with traffic management.
Examples of projects include:
- Being contracted by Network Rail for the clean-up operation following the collapse of the brick multi arch bridge at St John’s Wood.
- Being asked to act as a consultant to vet and approve proposed method statements for the demolition of two bridges on the A40 Western Avenue project in West London.
