Eleventh annual charity bike show in Kesgrave hailed huge success. Organisers behind a popular Suffolk bike show have credited the blazing sunshine with helping to make this year’s event one of the best yet.
Hundreds of people attended the 11th annual St George’s Day Charity Bike Show and Meet at the Bell Inn pub in Kesgrave today.
The event is organised by the Friends United Motorcycle Club (FUMCC), and this year was sponsored by TRU7.
More than £2,100 was raised, which will be split between East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) and National Association for Bikers with a Disability (NABD).
Fifty bikes took part in the show, but some 500 turned up throughout the day. There was a raffle as well as live music provided by the band Counterfeit.
Jane Jackson, FUMCC member, said: “We have had an amazing day.
“The bikers were filling every side road and the local residents were brilliant, some were saying ‘park on my path’.
“It’s so nice to have all the local residents coming and all enjoying it too. It’s a real Kesgrave community event because so many of the locals support us as well as bikers from all over.
“It seems to get bigger every year.
“I think with the sun coming out it must have been one of the best years ever, it’s been amazing.”
The Bell Inn donated 10% of its bar takings from the event towards the cause.
Landlady Debbie McCallum said: “They are a great crew – they are passionate about the bike club and raising money for those two charities.
“The first bike turned up at 8am and they just continued coming and what fantastic weather.
“I don’t think there were any other bike shows on today so it didn’t clash and people were in good spirits and my residents are great, they really support it.”
She added: “It’s a good day for the community.”
Mrs McCallum said one supporter, Ken Hinde, drove seven-and-a-half hours on his bike from Coventry to attend the event.
